ViBRANT First Year Review

I am delighted to be able to share with you the results of ViBRANT's first year review. This was written by three external reviewers (Barbara Aronson, Jessie Kennedy and Tom Dedeurwaerdere) after a day-long series of presentations from members of ViBRANT's management team at the end of January.

e-Infrastructures for data publishing in biodiversity science

A few days ago, a special issue of ZooKeys, edited by myself and Lyubomir Penev, published its jubilee Issue No 150 "e-Infrastructures for Data Publishing in Biodiversity Science", comprising 18 papers in total plus two editorials.

Creative Commons Non-Commercial Licences

During and after the kick-off meeting for ViBRANT there was much discussion on the “non-commercial” (NC) limitation, which is part of the default licence scheme added to content created within the ViBRANT infrastructure. A strict definition of NC makes this content incompatible with a growing body of other free material (e.g. Wikipedia) and potentially rules out other beneficial uses that a content creator might have intended to allow.

The work will include design and implementation of web applications, web services, data schemas and other applications and services.

We seek an up and coming junior Drupal developer for a 3-year (full-time) position, as part of a major collaborative effort to help researchers share and manage biodiversity data on the web (http://scratchpads.eu/). The role encompasses the development of content, theming and functionality for new and existing PHP and Drupal systems and applications.

The ViBRANT team at the Natural History Museum, London, in conjunction with the NERC funded eMonocot project will be hiring a Senior and Junior Drupal developer to complement the current group supported under EDIT. These posts are intended to start on December 1st, in time for the start of the ViBRANT project and the job adverts will appear here shortly. ViBRANT offers a range of job opportunities across Europe for informaticians and support scientists with an interest in biodiversity and natural history.
